Do take the time to read this post especially if you struggle with thoughts of condemnation and share it with others it will help…..?
The life of the new creation (me and you) has absolutely nothing to do with behaviour modification, but rather ‘newness’ and ‘transformation’ – it is a new and transformed life!! 2 Corinthians 5:17. A life that is totally new and hails from God – hence the term born again. The struggle that most Christians face centres on mainly a lack of understanding and revelation of this new birth which is only available through Christ Jesus – we perish and oftentimes destroyed when we do not know – Hosea 4:6. And not knowing, leads to struggles – so we struggle with our old self and ways of doing things found in the Adamic nature – trying our best to modify our behaviour to fit the Christian Life.
Truth is, we do not have to struggle with sin any more or try to modify our behaviours- if you try, it will stress the living daylight out of you, the enemy will bombard your thoughts with impossibilities and thoughts of condemnation of how that you are not changing. Beloved, all you really need is the right teaching of the Word of God as this will enable you see that sin has no dominion over you, you will begin to understand the power of the atonement and the resurrection. You see, we have been freed from sin – See Romans 6:6-7, “Knowing this, that our old man is crucified with him, that the body of sin might be destroyed, that henceforth we should not serve sin. For he that is dead is freed from sin.” So consider your self dead to sin and alive unto God.
Paul further tells us in Romans 6:11, “The death He died, He died to sin once for all; but the life He lives, He lives to God. So you too must count yourselves dead to sin, but alive to God in Christ Jesus. Therefore do not let sin control your mortal body so that you obey its desires.…” Anything that is not of love is selfish and anything that is not of faith is fear, therefore, sin separates us from God. For we know that faith works by love (Galatians 5:6).
So when an old thought pattern or behaviour rears its ugly head again in your life, remember what the scripture has said about you, you are now a new creation, you have the life of God in you, your spirit is now alive unto God, which means that all those pressurising and fear filled thoughts or emotions, or wrong desires have no have dominion/authority over you because you are no longer under the law but under grace (Romans 6:14). It is by grace that we have been saved through faith (Ephesians 2:8-9). And grace empowers us to say NO to sin and unrighteousness – it puts us over and above all circumstances. You can stand in the strength of Christ Jesus and say no, satan, greater is He who is in me than he who is in the world. You say like Paul said in Galatians 2:20 – “I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me..”
Why? because the day we said yes to Jesus, the nature of satan was no longer ours. Ephesians 2:1-2 (read the whole chapter) – we need to then put on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make not provision for the flesh, to fulfil the lusts thereof (Roman 13:14). When the enemy comes to attack your mind, An important point to always remember here is Ephesians 4:24 – this new self you have received from God is created to be like God in true righteousness and holiness – Glory to God!! Therefore as you have received Christ continue to walk in Him rooted and built up in Him and established in the faith, as you have been taught, abounding in it with thanksgiving (Colossians 2:6-7)
However, if anyone does sin, rather than live in shame and condemnation of yourself remember you have an advocate in Christ Jesus, run to Him and receive your forgiveness! 1 John 2:1 says, “My little children, these things write I unto you, that ye sin not. And IF any man sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous.”
I will conclude with Galatians 3:27, Paul said, “For all of you who were baptized into Christ have clothed yourselves with Christ.” Let this be your consciousness as you continue to walk in the spirit (Galatians 5:16).
